Hacking Again

gooduk dot net

I’m keeping a website again, and it’s great.

For years, I wrote gooduk.net with vim /var/www/html/index.html and variations thereof. It’s a tried and true method, but it has its shortcomings. Now, thanks to hugo, I can stay very close to that process, but with some real quality of life improvements. I’m still using pretty basic tools, but writing markdown instead of html, and with the ability to centralize certain pieces of oft-repeated code.

This has been a big shift. Experimenting with format changes feels so light and easy. Writing has the feeling of thinking about my thoughts, rather than where I am inside a parse tree.

I hope this enables me to write more, generally, and gives my future self a better window into its past self.
